Episode 002: Greater Love Part 1 – Inherent Worth

Today’s episode is Part 1 of a 3-Part series on developing greater love.

And it starts with a question: Do you desire to live with your whole heart, to have more courage, and to connect more vulnerably and lovingly with other people?

We absolutely believe that growth towards this goal is possible, and starts with realizing that healthy love isn’t simply some gift that you’re born with or natural talent, it’s a skill that you acquire. And the most important place to begin your quest is to realize that 1) you have inherent worth, and 2) that you are powerful and can change.

Today we talk about why those two mindsets are so important, and how to begin proactively developing them.

    Hello 🙂

I am really enjoying these podcasts and look forward to your future episodes.

Danny – in this video, you speak so clearly and eloquently. Thank you!

    Two simple questions;

Gratitude Journal – I love this idea and feel like I would benefit from this very much in order to shift from my constant negative thought pattern. I know it will be different for everyone, but staring at a blank page thinking of things to write daunts me. Do you have any prompts that would be helpful in getting the gratitude juices flowing?

Secondly, Mantras, I have read and heard a lot about this online, but again, as someone who has a very strong and at times overwhelming negative thought pattern, I struggle to think of ways to begin the mantra journey. Any thoughts/prompts on how to get going as a complete beginner?

    Thank you!

I look forward to hearing from you.

      Hello Anna!

Thanks for these really thoughtful questions, I’m glad you’ve really enjoyed these first episodes.

Hopefully I can provide some insights that are meaningful. First…I would recommend signing up for our “About Love Experience”, because in two of those emails in that series I actually write about the importance of Gratitude. You can find it in email 3 in that series, and then in Email 10 there is an option to click and received a Free Gratitude Meditation in the Bonus “Email 11”.

Key thing in both of these…they aren’t so much a gratitude “journal”…but just a practice. There’s no need to write something down, just a need to deliberately practice. Also, in the Gratitude Meditation I created for the email series…i give you some hints on just what you can be thankful for (including whatever it is that you find most difficult about life right now). It definitely takes some creativity.

Mantra work can be as individual and unique as the human being. I wasn’t much of one to go about creating actual mantras…but I did turn to poetry, to scripture, and to books that deeply moved me and described the kind of life I was attempting to lead consistently. I did whatever I could to let the principles behind those things sink deep into my soul. And I would reread the poetry or scripture or books regularly in order to tap back into that idea or thought or energy that so captured me.

Mara, on the other hand, was very deliberate about her mantra work. We talk about it more in the MasterClass, and have a whole 1 hour class in there on rewiring the brain….but suffice it to say that Mara was the kind of person who had a big fat list of all the things she wanted to believe about herself, wrote it down in her phone, and read it every single day on the way to work….and pulled it out if she sensed the other “script” taking over.

Don’t get stuck on the idea that it needs to be a written mantra and something you repeat…it can be purposeful songs, meditations, writings, or whatever it is that you resonate with.

Get creative and discover some type of medium that moves you personally…that will be more meaningful than me telling you what worked specifically for me and anticipating that you should resonate in just the same way.

      Much Love!

Thank you for taking the time to reply and upon reflection, maybe I took your suggestions too literal. Sharing your personal experience was really helpful and I will try to recognise what “resonates” with me going forward.

        Thanks again

I look forward to your future podcasts.

I don’t think you were too literal. If anything, I’m glad you were taking it seriously. I would still definitely suggest writing things down for the gratitude journal. I’m a huge fan of that. I make sure and keep something like that myself.

The emails I pointed you to should be a great resource for getting some of the “gratitude juices” flowing.

Two interesting practices that are often rewarding for me: 1) I try to express gratitude for the thing that is most difficult for me in the moment. If something has been eating away at me, I try to find a reason to shift my energy to gratitude, even if the only thing I can manage is to be grateful that this life experience is forcing me to look for wholeness from within. 2) The gratitude meditations we do on our walks have been huge…you just start giving your absolute attention to one thing at a time, and express gratitude for it. It doesn’t have to be in nature, it can be in your home too. You can see a post here – http://dannyandmara.com/2014/05/walking-meditations-and-practicing/

And mantra work is HUGE. But it really is important to go with what really works for you. Try this if you don’t know where else to start 🙂 http://dannyandmara.com/affirmations/
