How To Save Your Marriage – Advice From A 6 Year Old

Have you seen this impassioned plea from a 6 year old girl for her parents to stay together? Oh my goodness! She gives some pretty good advice, and does it with such level-headed calmness and awareness, it’s amazing!

“Are you ready to be his friend?”

“Just try your best.”

“I’m not trying to be mean. I’m trying to do best in my heart. Nothing else than that.”

“I want everyone to be smiling, not like being mad.”

“I think you can settle your…your mean heights down a little to short heights…”

“I’m not trying to be mean, I’m not trying to be a bully, I’m trying to be steady…where my heart is.”

“My heart is something. Everyone else’s heart is something too. And if we live in a world where everyone is being mean, everyone is going to be a monster.”

“We need everyone to be a person, including me.”

“I want everything to be as good as possible, nothing else.”

What a moving video! I want to know how she got so wise.

Perhaps it is a good reason to suggest that sometimes the greatest wisdom is really just common sense…the kinds of things children understand almost intuitively are some of the things we've distanced ourselves from the most. (of course, that's a major simplification, but in this case it works.)

This breaks my heart a little bit. My son turned 6 just after our divorce was finalized and he was a wise old soul, with a tender heart, like this girl and I can imagine him saying something like this to me which is why I tried my best. Did I fail because the divorce happened regardless? He'll be turning 14 soon and he's still a wise old soul with a tender heart who strives for peace, he's happy, he's loved, and I'm still trying my best.

Well, if 8 years after a divorce, he's still a wise soul with a tender heart who strives for peace…I'd say you've done quite an amazing job.

I don't think someone has failed if they've divorced. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes with this mom and dad, or any other pair considering divorce for that matter.

Truly, sometimes it is necessary. But even when it is necessary, this little girl's advice is still prescient. Kindness, doing our best, being nice, bringing our mean heights down to lower heights….this is all relevant whether divorce happens or not.

If you've managed to do this in your life, despite the divorce….than I'd say you've done your son, and everyone else around you, a big favor…and added to the number of smiles in the world.

She is such a sweetheart Devine soul.. Why we all are turning evils when such a little one can think like why can't we… Why can't we be human and spread love… One of my prayer says same…om
Serve bhavantu sukhinah, sarve santu niramayaah,
sarve bhadraani pashyantu, Maa kaschid dukh
bhaag beaver, om sShanti shanti shanti.
Meaning – – om may all become happy, may all be free from illness, may all see what is auspicious, om peace peace peace.

Thanks for sharing. Mara and I have loved incorporating a few of those kinds of prayers/mantras into our practice ever since we attended Vipassana, and loved the focus at the end of a meditation to allow any peace obtained to flow out to all other beings.

Seems a bit exploitive to me. I doubt it was her idea to videotape this, and even if it was, why was it put on the internet?

Perhaps…in which case 90% of youtube is exploitative. People post little snippets of their little loved ones saying and doing all sorts of inspiring, funny, loving, and crazy things.

I doubt the mom knew it was going to get 8 million+ views when she put it out there. Probably put it out to show a few friends, her husband and family. And then it starts getting shared and explodes online.

Questioning and doubting is a good practice, as it explores wonders but sometimes we should take inspiring and positive things as they flow through for continuing a chain of positivity.
