The Best Days of My Life…

There is NOTHING that makes you feel more loved than 12 dozen balloons and a room packed with your favorite people on earth who have come to wish you farewell after 14 years in Brooklyn.
This happened just before we left New York. And it has gone down in history as one of the favorite days of my life.

I still can’t believe how kind my friends were to plan this!! I wanted to have a little gathering, too, but they had something much bigger in mind. (This photo just makes my heart melt.)

See more pics after the jump…

Linsey Laidlaw made this awesome sign, which I kept and will be framing in my home one day.

Our talented and dear friend, Tina Richerson, serenaded us with her saxophone. And our friend, Melissa Hope, so kindly took most of these pictures which I am SO glad we have as I was too caught up in the moment to pull out a camera.

I got to visit with dear Macalia, an autistic girl in Brooklyn who will always have a piece of my heart. She makes you feel like a million bucks when she grabs your hand and wants you to come sit by her.

And most of the best friends of my life were in every direction I looked…it was one of those unbelievable moments that just takes your breath away – and also freaks you out a little bit that you are the guest of honor!

And the KIDS!!!! Oh, how I adore these Brooklyn kids to pieces. They were going NUTS over the balloons all night long. It was pretty cute, until the balloon mosh pit took over. All the adults in the room were standing by.

How could I ever say thank you enough? I didn’t think I would cry. But oh, I cried. There was just too much history in that room. I have enough good memories to last a lifetime.

Thank you to Marisol for organizing and thanks to ALL the friends who came!! I remember feeling like my heart could hardly take it – it was just that good. But then again, that was a feeling I had often while living in that city…thanks to the people there, those really were the best days of my life.

That was the best party! You guys deserved a proper send-off. You really have touched and helped so many people here in Brooklyn, and you are missed!

Mara, It's "a girl (or in this case maybe a woman) with autism. NOT an autistic girl. People first, diagnosis second.
