Greetings from Brazil! Our time here has been extraordinary. (But you know what? I’ve also missed being a blogger and being more in touch with all of you while I’ve been here. It’s a good problem to have 🙂 Here are some pictures from our few days in the jungle….(our wonderful guide made us those crowns).
We rode around by boat the entire time. (Right now the river is the highest it has ever been and so a lot of the jungle is flooded.) I think here I was actually knodding off a bit in this photo as riding that boat was so dang relaxing.
We met the most wonderful people from our lodge (including a dear family from Singapore who are sitting behind me.) We were only with them for 3 days but became fast friends. I wish we could see them all again.
Our guide took us by canoe to visit a native family.
Here’s some manioca, which they made into tapioca pancakes for us (they’re gluten-free and really good!)
Can you believe that grill?!?
I bought this bracelet and bag from the family as they were selling some handmade goods (including some handmade Panama hats. Unfortunately they were too small for my big head.) We’ve been so busy meeting people here in Manaus and haven’t had time to shop anywhere else. Actually, I normally never shop on vacations. (Danny couldn’t believe it when he started traveling with me :). But here in Brazil, I want to go into every store! Even the hardware stores, dollar stores, candy stores, toy stores, hammock stores, broom stores, fan stores, plastic chair stores, ETC. I am enticed by just about every store front here. Every shop seems to be full of something colorful and unique.
We saw the sunset…and the sunrise….
(I know many of you could probably see the sunrise/sunset every day if you wanted, but we hardly see the sun in New York so for us….this was a treat! 🙂
And we just enjoyed so much being in nature for a few days. And I just loved smelling the rain forest. It smelled amazing. The minute we got of the plane in Manaus I said to Danny, “It smells like a jungle.”
We took some amazing naps on these hammocks on our boat. I decided I need to figure out how to hang a hammock in our apartment in New York. I think it should become the new guest bed 🙂
That’s it for now! Have a wonderful day, everyone!
Much love from Brazil,
Mara & Danny
